Dash/Cluster Lights

I think only 95&96 have blue cluster lights, the rest (97& up) have greenish. I personally like the blue better. I'll agree that the dash could be brighter (must be spoiled from the blind-me blue digital dash on my oh-so-fashionable 86 Pontiac 6000 STE :) )

I've been thinking about changing the color of the pointers to orange instead of white, but first gota figure out how the pointers are illuminated.

I've read somewhere on this forum that a Sharpie marker works well on the needles. Another option is nail polish.

Uhm...I dunno if anybody cares, but I'm having custom gauges made for my X by a place called MMRUSA-they can do the lights in blue, red, green, with different color faces and you can even have writing put on the gauge face if you want (mine are going to say 'Sport Gt'-don't laugh too hard). They ought to be done in less than a week, and since I'm being the guinea pig for this, anybody with 98 style or similar gauges could have theirs done to order too......

So, Hyper white bulbs are worth the extra $$? I like my stuff bright, but right now the only way I can buy anything for my truck is with the damn Pep Boys card-anyone know if they carry them? ( I HATE beng broke!)

how much is it costing for your gauges? how long is it taking? what color and or design did you get?

About $120, it took 4-5 weeks for them to create a template, and I'm getting a white/silver face with green, slanted script numbers and letters. When I get them and install them I'll take pics, but I haven't figured out what forum to post them in...They're not really a sport truck exclusive persay, because anybody could use them.....any ideas?

Well, I sent in the gauge faces off a wreck on Feb.15th, so they better be here within a week or else I'll be very :fire:. I can understand their taking so long because they had to make a prototype (no one has ever ordered for an Explorer before).

I just bid on a ten set bunch of Cycolight 194's for $11...anybody know if these are okay for use? (yah, I know, I should've asked BEFORE I bid on them ;) )

spas do you mean the bulbs in just the gauge or whole dash?

p.s. are you near Ocean City?

spas do you mean the bulbs in just the gauge or whole dash?

I have a few that are burned out, so I'm replacing all of them; the 6 in the dash and the ? in the AC panel (how many are in there, anyway?). I like 'em bright, that's why I'm glad that this thread found me ;)

As for OC....Don't I wish!!! I live about 3 hours away, but we generally go down there every two months or so, just for fun.

LOL i wish i did too but ill be there Aug 4- 11 for vacation i go every year but i saw that you said you got those 194 cycolights, im thinking about bidding considering time is running out . which bulbs are you going to replace them with?

Well, the ones in the dash are 194's-these are just brighter.

August 4-11th, huh? I may have to come down and bug you ;) lol

Anyone know if the 91-94s use the the 194 bulbs also?
thanks

Oooooookay, the guy who made my custom gauges recommended that I NOT use the hyper bright's because apparently they throw off a lot of heat, but I already bought the damn things.

Whatcha think? Should I alternate the hyper brite's with stock bulbs to keep the heat down?

spas i just installed those cycolite hyperwhites in my truck. i replaced all interior bulbs ( except for glove box because i broke one bulb like a moron) they give off a nice light, but they are now where near as bright as stock bulbs, i guess because they are a smaller bulb but i cant imagine they give off that much more heat. just my 2 cents and i wanted to let you know how the bulbs were because i remember you saying you got the same ones. im done rambling.

Too late, 2K1! I juts put them in a few hours ago...LOL You're right, they're not as bright as I thought they'd be, but my new gauges have wider numbers on them, allowing for more light to leak through, so DAMN are they bright! :) The lowest level now was the highest level on my old gauge faces.

Thanks for all the info, gang!

Workin' on it! ;) I'll start a thread on them and my new gauges and carbon fiber surround when I get the pics back tomorrow
