Hi.. 2005 Explorer xls:
Turn on the headlights with the heater/ac ON and the dash light are out. Turn on the headlights with the heater/ac OFF and the dash lights are OK. Headlight, taillight, brakelight are all OK. It's the dash and ALL interior light (door, radio, etc.) that are affected.

When this starts happening, the fan runs very slowly in all settings and if the headlights are then turned OFF, the dashlight comes on very faintly!!!

Battery good, connections good, tried unhooking the battery for a reset which did NOT make any difference... pulled and reseated all of the relays...

Rarely the ABS reads OFF, when this is going on...

Any ideas?? a relay, the ignition switch, chafed wire... be nice if someone knew the fix.

Then it all works fine for a while??
Any ideas appreciated.... thanks

If anyone is having similar issues.... it's all working normally now. I think it's the switch for the heater/ac.... I sprayed with boshield t-9 which I've had really good luck with.... made an appt for diagnosis with what appears to be a really good mechanic... and before I could get the truck to them... it's all OK. Rather than spend $$$ when there's nothing to fix... I'll wait.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate the help... thx
