I am having a problem with my 2002 Explorers dome lights. It seems that the door switch has a short or something in it that causes the dome light to stay on for an extended period of time. That also in turn to keeps the courtesey lights on that are in the mirrors. If you push the button on the key fob it double honks like a door is open. If I turn the dash lights off, this all does not happen. I was wondering if any one has had this problem, and what is it.

Try this. I just did this fix this morning. took me about 1 hour with this awesome post and directions. I found it was easier to do with the speaker out and used a cable tie to run the new wires through the rubber boot.
I had the same problem you are describing, also the door chimes with the key in ignition and doors closed as well as radio shuts off as soon as you shut car off.
Thank you to everyone for their help with this.

I had the exact same thing happening to me. It turned out to be a broken ground wire in the boot between the driver's door and the body. Repaired it and all is well. Might also be the door ajar switch.

Here is a great thread for removing the door panel and replacing the door ajar switch, thanks to borland for the awesome write-up: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249253

Here is a great thread for checking for broken/damaged wires, (same link as my1zamboni posted), thanks to synyster for this awesome write-up: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=270081

Hope this helps out. :salute:
