Is this normal??? I've only had my X for three months and the other day I noticed if I turn the key to towards me (aux?) to listen to the radio... then start it afterwards my highbeams are on. If I turn the lights on the highbeams go out. It lasts about 5 - 10 mins then everythings fine.

thanks in advance.

It's probably part of the DRL, daytime running light system. Dunno if it's normal for the system or not, but I do know most Canadian X's have the DRL.

BTW, Welcome!

i have a 97 that does that.... now that i know the switch trick maybe i can control the drl...good info ..thanks

The running lights actually use the Highbeam filament turned on at a lower level of power. There is a black DRL box by the washer fluid tank that controls them.

The DRL box is starting to fail.My box has failed for quite a while now.
I think the box can get overheated, and fry internally.
For the last couple of years, my Ex started showing the highbeam symbol when running.

The thing is, there is no running lights, or highbeams on anymore, even when the highbeam symbol is on, unless I turn on the highbeams.

The only way to cancel running lights is by turning on the headlights, or push on the e-brake. I like the DRL's off, as I run with my headlights during the day anyways......

its a canadian law, they have to have drl

Thanks for the info guys.

Isn't 2002 and up for US as well ???

Problem fixed, it was the drl module. I picked one up from a wrecker for 35 bucks and have had no problems since.

Carson :can:
