Very interesting. Subscribing and keep up the details.

Keep us updated on this. Sounds like a good swap

Today I found a 2001 lightning that got lightly rolled. The motor, trans, and everything under the hood are in good shape. The truck only has 43,--- miles on it. We are going to do our best to get it.

Alrights that sounds like a good engine to get for your mounty.

As far as lightning motors go, that's the best year to start with!!!(01-04 are good, 99-00 have leaky intercoolers, etc)

If you get it, good luck!

That combo will desimate all...

I hope you get it !

Here are some more pics guys.

Today was more of a lazy day, I just focused on cleaning up the engine bay and getting unnecessary things out.

Cleaning up good= purple power and clorox. It probably makes mustard gas but, I was wearing a mask and in a very ventilated area.

Engine bay looks nice and clean  I see you decided not to remove the headers with the engine? Easier just to remove the engine by unbolting the headers from the block or what?

I feel like I need to yank my engine out now just so I can clean!!

It was a lot easier to unbolt them from the engine. Then get a cheater bar to get them pulled away from the block a little bit. Once the clear the exhaust bolts you wont hear a peep out of them anymore.

The reason for all this is they will hit on the motor mounts/steering shaft on the way out from what we could see.

Alright...Good to know so if I change out my block to a 4.6 I'll know a better way to take the headers off the block.

Today i took the remaining exhaust off that was going to interfere with the new motor going in. I also removed all of the ac and heating components (pics of all tomorrow). My next question is, would the fuel pump thats in the tank be sufficient or will I need to install something a little more potent?

Did you get the Lightining Motor ???

If so, I would imagine you may need a better fuel pump...

not yet man. I found that lightning but, I also found a 05 navigator that got hit in the rear passengers side. Trying to figure out which on to go with. Price vs power

I would think with either motor get a fuel pump with a little more muscle to it :D

PM Mounty03 to see how good the stocker is for. He recently upgraded because he needed it:cool:

Is say do it right and upgrade the fuel pump. Go check out the fuel lines on the lightning if my memory serves me right then they will be bigger then the explorer fuel lines. If your going with the lightning motor then call a shop called johnny lightnings its on pa and he knows the ford lightning like no other. He may be able to help you with the wiring also. He has the sickest twin turbo lightning ever.

Oh yeah is say go with the navigator 5.4 and go the sts route down the road. You are gonna have tight clearance between the supercharger snout and the hood. My fix would be cut the hood and let everyone know you you have a beast caged up under it!

He needs to make it a sleeper mounty  :D Then he can pull up at stop lights and leave those ricers in the dust!
