Hey Folks, been trying all morning to keep the 10 amp #26 fuse from blowing on ghe Daughter's '96 4.0 XLT 4x4.....but to no avail. I get 12 volts on the rear most slot with the key on, no voltage with the key off.....but no matter what I shake, unplug, disconnect or whatever, I still have continuity between the forward fuse slot to chassis/body ground. Key on, key off or even while running. Am I correct in thinking that continuous continuity from that outbound slot indicates a dead short somewhere? 'Cuz I've been through eight fuses today (from 10 amps thru 25 amps) after disco'ing each component on that circuit, then intalling another fuse to see if I can isolate the problem.

I've removed the b/up lights, then the t-case shift motor harness, then the two connectors at the front drive solenoid, then the transmission range sensor coupler, then finally the o/d push button & the two wires from it that usually wear on the steering column casting. But none of those have solved the fuse blowing problem. Any ideas and/or insight would be greatly appreciated. ....

Cheers,

Rick

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention that I also had my audio test meter on while I pulled every fuse and breaker on the truck, one at a time. Buzzer never once went off. Hmmmmm....:D

Don't know if your '96 has a battery saver relay. This relay disconnects the interior lights (and possibly some other loads) if left on for a long time with the engine not running, to prevent the battery from discharging too far. If it does have one, would be a good idea to locate (should be in a relay module, probably under the dash), pull it out, and see what happens.
