Hi, everyone,

I'd like to replace the cruise control switches on my '97 Eddie Bauer (just the switches) with a couple of gently used ones. Although I don't particularly care if the switches light up or not, I'd prefer to get ones that do light up as opposed to ones that don't. The most important thing for me is that both places on each switch where they are bolted into the steering wheel assembly must be intact. I don't want ones that have been "repaired" (i.e., super glued), as I could just as easily super glue the one switch I currently have that has one of these broken.

A guy at a local junkyard told me that he had a pair of used ones that lit up and that were not broken in the way that I specified that he would "let me have" for $70. This seemed high to me, but I thought I'd get a general opinion from the other folks on this board. Do you think that $70 is too high, just right, or a good deal for a pair of cruise control switches in this condition (just the switches, nothing else) for my EX? I'd appreciate any advice you may have. THX!

Damn. I could pry get the whole steering wheel for $16, if one was available in the junkyard. I wonder if they would charge extra with the cruise buttons present...?

try on eBay, they have them on there often. I bought my whole cruise control set up, switches, servo, all the wiring, for 75 shipped off a member on this forum, so I'm sure you can do much better than $70.

Thanks, everyone.

I ended up buying a pair off of ebay for $40. They light up just fine, and it was really easy to swap out the old ones I had for these using the directions provided on a post from this forum. The ones I got came out of a Ranger, but they fit just fine--I think I remember reading on another post that the Ranger and the Explorer (at least for the 1997 model year) used the same switches, so that wasn't really much of a surprise.

The other switches I have work just fine, but one of the bulbs burned out and one of the plastic attaching arms was broken at the point where it bolts on to the steering column at the top of the switch. I'm just going to repair that broken piece with super glue or epoxy and then get a new bulb for it. I'll probably just end up hanging on to the old ones for spares, just in case. Or if it looks like I could sell them, I might sell them.
