Delay in Transmission?

I have been baffled by this problem recently- when I shift from one gear to another (such as Rev into Drive) or even just into any gear, there is a delay of like 2-3 seconds where it does not do anything and then suddenly realizes it didn't shift and does so abruptly.

Also, while driving, it does not always shift into gear, such as 2nd to 3rd, and I have to let go of the gas and then push down on the gas again before it shifts.

Do both of these problems have to do with the same thing or are they completely different?

And whatever the problem be, how do I fix these things? I haven't found much information on these problems.

Thanks a bunch! :D

I had transmission issues also and it turned out to be a solenoid pack in the trans as well as the pump. It was all fixed (twice) under warranty 60,000 miles ago and I have had no problems since. 2002 Xls

My moms 04 4.6 is having these exact symptoms. Did they use an upgraded soleniod in the newer versions or is there an upgrade pack I need?

For me, a tranny filter and fluid change helped tremendously. I know from experience the tranny filters at AutoZone were garbage for Chrysler trannies, so I opted not to take a chance with one for my Ford. Instead I got a SPX/Filtran filter from Carquest, and used Castrol Mercon V fluid. After a little bit of mess, I got the whole fluid fill procedure down pretty good. It's not too bad once you get the hang of it.

solenoid packs act up and can cause this as does low shift pressure the trans has updates on solenoids and increased shift pressure to elimanate sudder into overdrive. After that is taken care of cupmuter will need to be reflashed with updates.
