Hello. Figured I’d post something here no one else seems to know. I have an 01 explorer 4.0 2 door 47,000 miles, recently when the car is completely cold I put it into drive or reverse and instead of going into gear and moving it’s almost like it’s not getting enough fuel or air Idk.. The idle dips down to like 200 and the car goes nowhere for a couple seconds until it’s done boggling. It’s almost like it’s running out of gas but that would not make sense. I was told it could possibly be the transmission maybe the torque converter or the mass airflow sensor I really have no clue. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Daniel

Have you checked the transmission fluid level?

Yea changed every fluid and it’s at the right level. It’s getting worse now stalls while I’m driving I think it’s something with the intake or the fuel pump. There’s really no way to tell unless ur driving it. This truck costs me enough as it is. Unless I can fix it myself it’s gonna stay like that till I get stuck I guess..

Clean your MAF (good maintenance anyway) and also clean your IAC valve.

Is your check engine light on?

everything checks out I did clean the MAF I guess I could try the IAC thanks!

Autozone lets you "lease" fuel pressure tester (pay $150 up front as if buying...then get full $150 back when returned)....your 2001 has returnless fuel system so what I've read on here it should read around 65-70 psi while running....don't recall what the key-on engine off pressure should read at.
The fact that it's rapidly getting worse might reveal it's the pump before getting around to doing test.... if it gets to "wont start hardly at all condition" ...spray starting fluid / carb cleaner in throttle body and if starts right up and dies --- 99% fuel pump failure.

I will def try that next thanks. What makes me think that it’s

What makes me think it’s air related is cause after I gun it and stop quickly it sputters out. But I will def look into renting that from autozone thanks..

Look for vacuum hose maybe disconnected. Also think about when last you replaced fuel filter.

What 4.0 V6 do you have? OHV or SOHC?
