For those that want to delete the cats, besides it being illegal by federal law (no matter what the local laws are) you can have good quality sound and performance with a good catted exhaust. For a 5.0 or 4.6 Explorer, they will sound very good with a decent cat-back and an aftermarket catted H or X pipe. For the 4.0 motors, you never will get the same sound as a V-8, but you can still do pretty well with the proper cat-back system. As has been stated over and over, the catalytic converters in late model vehicles do not suffocate the exhaust like they did in the 70's and 80's.
