opening the chamber

If you want to do it, do it the cheap way. Unbolt the cat, get a piece of pipe or rebar, beat all of the crap out of the inside and bolt it back up. Then get a spark plug fouler to screw the o2 sensor into so it will pull the sensor out of the exhaust stream further so it will still change slower than the front o2 sensor.

Doing this will create a large chamber near the exhaust manifold and probably reduce rather than increase performance. It will, however, increase the sound intensity of the exhaust. To increase performance (slightly) and sound (significantly) then replace the cat with a pipe but I don't recommend it. It's not worth the expense nor is it a responsible act.

This way will cost way more and will not pass a visual inspection. I wouldn't do either one if I was expecting a big performance gain. Both will gain the same sound. So if he want's to go and pay for a special bent piece of exhaust tubing then he should do it the above way.

I have the 4.0 OHV and have one of the cats removed. Makes it a lot louder. Does throw a CEL but there is an o2 simulator thing you can buy that will fool the computer into thinking the cat is still there. I don't have it but i know it's out there. Or you could go the route of just taking the stock cats off and getting high flows.

Does anyone know where to get an o2 simulator?Or any way to delete post cat o2 sensors altogether?

Okay.

Honestly, i just wanted my truck to be slightly louder and possibly perform a little better. I'm going to do some headers soon and was wondering if while down there i should delete the cat, I don't have inspection and if i did the delete properly no one would ever know the difference (except me). But if it really wont help anything then i guess ill just forget it, i just thought the idea of some nice headers with a straight pipe right to my super turbo would be the perfect sound i am looking for and a nice performance gain. Later mods will be a cam and way down the road i hope to top it off with a supercharger.

What would be the best way to get some performance from changing the muffler? i have a 98 eb and have been thinking about putting exhaust on it. but i dont know if i need new cats and would it hurt any thing it i lost the muffler all together and just ran the cats and straight pipe out the back? just looking for some suggestions and I am partial to flowmaster mufflers. Any response would be greatly appreciated. Im looking for slight performance gains but really just a nice deep tone thats loud but not annoying, Thanks again.

bump

If you run a straight pipe from the cats you will lose power, it will be unbearably loud, and horrid sounding. I know alot of people on this site like running flowmasters and i suppose it is an acquired taste. Personally, i think the flowmaster gives the six an almost ricer sound.. at least the 40 series, so maybe a 70 series or a 50 series if you want it to be on the loud side. If you want a deeper tone thats mellower but sounds great, dynomax makes the most affordable cat back kit.

when i did my exhuast i ran around town with no exhaust behind the cats for a day
it sounded pretty damn good, not to loud
i am currently working on removing the cats due to mine not being quite loud enough with the 2.5" piping and cherry bomb vortex

Question: why do some people want a "loud" vehicle?

Question: why do some people want a "loud" vehicle?

Exactly. A fast car does not need to be loud. But a loud car can still be as slow as a brick, which makes it even more of a nuisance because it makes more noise for a longer period of time.

Isn't this thread all about illegal activity though? Who is going to close it this time.?I am always the party pooper

And then we have exhaust video clips taken with cameras placed right behind the tail pipe - but we're never that close to the tail pipe when we're driving :)

Ok wise guy--:p::D
It was fun for a minute.

I'm glad someone finally mentioned it ;)

we really should NOT be condoning an action that is against federal law.

so what if you don't have emissions testing in your state; it's still against FEDERAL law to remove the catalytic converters.

now, for a vehicle with 4 cats (ie, the V8), I'm not sure what the legality is of removing the down-stream cats, but removing them altogether is not legal.

and yeah... why do you need it so loud? gonna be one of those a-holes that drives around in a neighborhood pulling 4 grand on the tach in 1st gear, setting off everybody's car alarms?
I have a neighbor that does this in a souped up diesel... p&%^# me off when I get woken up by his truck 30 min before my alarm goes off....

I can top them all so neener neener

All calmed down to this

So, let's say it again.

It isn't what you do, it is what you do openly on the internet which will get you into trouble.

Night

OK so on one hand we are complaining about illegal activity. Then on the other hand we are posting videos of illegal activity on public streets Oookeedoke  just wanted to make sure I understand...

Btw.. that 347 sounds bada$$ man It makes me miss my old mustang
