My check engine light popped on the other day and dissappeared within 5 min. then popped back on a little while later. I went to ford to run a check, (not knowing how much a diagnostic was) 89.99 just to fun a check!
Is there a way or a device to pull computer codes, for less than that?? I know it takes about an hour or a little more but 90 bucks, that sucks! I didnt check arround for prices but do most places do it cheaper? or is that a normal price, please give me any feedback that you thing would help, thanks

Try an non dealer garage, they usually charge around $50.

Your 1993 is an OBD I system, you can buy a code reader for it for about $25 from WalMart that will just pull codes.

Also, a parts house like Autozone will often do it for free. But you have an OBD I system and the reader is only $25-30 like he said.

ok, cool thanks. one more ?. once i get the codes pulled how do i "decipher" them? I thought i read about them being in the haynes/chilton manual thing (and i have one) but didnt see them,??

A decent code reader should come with a code book. But the shop manuals should have most of them also.

If you don't know a code and cant find it, post it on the boards and we'll help.
