This is frustrating the hell out of me. All I want to do is wire ONE SIMPLE 10 inch neon to a lighted switch (three prongs). I've been testing different configurations out with a 9V battery to make sure it works before I hook it up to the cig lighter wire. I've been trying to do this for over three months with NO AVAIL! Isn't that pathetic? It's obvious God didn't bless me with electrical skills.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this? Or, tell me in detail how to do this?

Thanks

How many wire connections on the switch and are they marked in any way?
Are you sure the switch is OK?

The switches are brand new, so I assume they're OK. It has three prongs, marked from left to right: supply volts, on ACC., Earth ground.

OK so far. Your "hot" wire , comming from the fuse box or wherever goes to the supply post. The wire from the positive side of the neon light, if they have positive & negative sides, goes to the acc. post and the ground wire goes from a grounded screw to the ground post.
The remaining wire on the neon is also grounded.
Sound OK to you?

Yeah let me try it.

Ok before I go out there, I have two questions.

You said connect the power wire to the fuse box, would it be the same thing to connect the wire to the cigerette lighter, and if so, do I splice it onto the postive or negative wire? I'm not worried about inline fuses or anything right now.

What is an acceptable way to ground a wire? And, can I use electrical tape and tape the ground wires to a metal part just for temporary purposes?

Splice into the positive wire to the cig. lgtr.

If tapeing the wire completes the circut, than it works. But dont be suprized if it doesnt.

Best way is to crimp an eyelet to the wire and fiind a screw, by using a circut tester, that is grounded and screw the wire there.
Or tap(splice) into a known ground wire.
