I spent a while searching, but couldnt come up with a definite answer!

I've seen 3.08's in genI's but I've yet to see them in a genII.
I'm planning a 4bta swap in my DD and need to gear it right. I've got 3.55's now but I'd rather have 3.08s or even 2.73s. I really dont want to rebuild both my axles, I'd rather just swap them out.

Yes, I've seen the list:
Door Code
41..... Open 8.8"..... 3200..... 3.27
42..... Open 8.8"..... 3200..... 4.10
43..... Open 8.8"..... 3200..... 3.08
44..... Open 8.8"..... 3200..... 3.73
45..... Open 8.8"..... 3200..... 3.55
46..... Open 8.8"..... 3200..... 3.73
D1..... L/S 8.8"..... 3200..... 3.27
D2..... L/S 8.8"..... 3200..... 4.10
D4..... L/S 8.8"..... 3200..... 3.73
D5..... L/S 8.8"..... 3200..... 3.73
L73 ..... L/S ?.?"..... ????..... 3.73

But that doesnt completely answer my question.

If anyone knows for sure (or has 3.08s and want to trade for a set of 3.73 axles), let me know.

No I believe the starting ratio was 3.27

Thats what I thought too. I was hoping for a different answer then that.

Why not just pull a open carrier from a 1st gen with the right ratio and swap em over.

I'm not worried about the rear axle. I can find what I need for the rear.

I'm more concerned with the front. Will GenI gears swap into a GenII housing. I thought they used different gears and carriers.
If I remember correctly the TTB gears are reverse and the IFS gears are standard.

3.08s are going to be a dog.

My plan is to run a slightly tuned 4bta, a ZF 5-42 wide ratio, 3.08 gears, and 31-32" tires. Its a daily driver that may tow a small trailer (1000-1500lbs) once in a blue moon.

If my calculations are correct, I will be running W/ 31s:
gear 10 MPH 35 MPH 65 MPH
1 --- 1910 --- 6683 -- 12412
2 ---- 981 --- 3435 --- 6380
3 ---- 537 --- 1881 --- 3494
4 ---- 334 --- 1168 --- 2170
5 ---- 254 ---- 888 --- 1649

The only thing I dont like is the big jump from first to second in the ZF. Its got a 5.72 first gear and a 2.94 second.
