First of all just joined so I wanted to say hi :D

Second, I just bought a 94 xlt off a friend for $1100.

Heres the bad

-204000 miles (obviously highway, truck is very smooth and quiet, runs strong)
-Passenger side has body damage, I need to replace both doors and bondo the rear quarter a little bit.
-Just picked it up two days ago and it needs a good cleaning inside and out, but I love doing that (used to do it for a living)

The good

EVERYTHING works. 4wd engages nicely, windows operate smoothly, power everything etc etc

welcome the the site. Sounds like a fair deal. What are your plans for the truck?

The 4.0 can handle the miles, but I think you paid a bit high for it.

the transmission is what to worry about the 4.0 would probably ouytlast the truck..lol

It sounds like a decent deal, but IMO you overpaid a little for it. I recently picked up a 92 sport with 179k on it. Body is in excellent condition. It needed a new tailpipe ($20 from Autozone), a new Maf sensor, and the electric 4x4 didn't work. I ended up getting that for $1000 even to give you an idea. If there hadn't been body damage I would say you got a pretty good deal. Actually I was just up your way today. Stopped up at EZpull just north of you and got my hands on a 1354 manual tcase.

sounds like a decent deal  Welcome

ahh, get bulge fenders all the way around and forget the bondo! Start throwing spare money into a jar labled "tranny fund" :D Then go wheel the crap out of it! When the engine does finally go, time for a 302 swap! :D

Heres my Ex for $800.00, looks like a deal to me but 200k miles is a long haul on yer tranny

EZpull is off of 865 east of 61 in New Ringgold. There is also A to Z pull south of you about the same distance. There isn't much there in the way of explorers, espcially for body parts. There were about 4 Explorers at EZ pull that had good doors and body panels that I can think of off the top of my head. Doors are $25 ea. The only thing is they can be dicks and start nickel and diming you to death. $8 for glass, $5 for interior panel, etc. If you show up with a pile with alot of small parts when its a little busy at the checkout they'll just give you a lump sum amount. I did that with my Tcase/shifter/boot/knob. Ended up just doing an even $50 for the whole lot. You can forget finding a 1354 manual tcase. I searched the whole yard and I got the only one I found :D

yeah just go to the pick and pull get a new door and fender paint them and your good as new....and it would be a good idea to start to save up for a re-build.

Good job fix er up and wheel!
I just got a 96 explorer with only the motor gone and front hit hard on pas side with 46k miles (I needed the tranny) the guy sold the whole thing to me for 100 bucks :) !

hey im new to the site too and i just got my second explorer its a 94 2wd sprt with 146k miles and damn good interior and right front fender bent a little . picked it up for 1500 at my local truck shop. and all you have to do is find another X that was hit on the driver side and get weat u need for ur pass side...
