I just finished a couple of jobs on my 99 Mounty, replaced the sway bar bushings on the front, that went mostly smooth except for one uh-oh moment
Also drained and refilled the transfer case (BW4404) until fluid starts to dribble out the fill hole, The thing that got my attention was that I drained 3 liters of fluid out of it, put back in 1.3 liters, so how did it manage to get 3 liters in it to begin with?

Just checked my repair manual and they have 1.3 quarts (or liters) listed as the capacity. So I wouldn't worry about it, sounds like you did it right. It must have been overfilled before.

Just scratching my head about how all that fluid got put in there, can T-cases be filled on a bench and then installed?

more than likely if you bought your vehicle used - one of the previous owners kept adding it because they thought it was leaking/needed.

yes, when I rebuilt mine I thought it to be easier to fill it before throwing it on the truck.

That makes sense, when I pulled the fill plug the gusher caught me by surprise!
