I will be driving down the road (various speeds)and the engine stopps running as if I turned the key off. I can pull over and restart it and keep on driving. The only thing different I have done is add the light hookup kit to pull my boat. It started after that. I find it hard to believe that the kit is the problem, I could see it blowing a fuse, not killing the engine. It has no pattern to it. It does it sometimes after 2 minutes of running it or 30 minutes. I have a 93 4X4 4.0L V6 EFI 90,000 miles. Also, I hear a ticking that I thought might be my muffler, but I hear it when I raise the hood. Affraid it is not my muffler.
If anyone can give me any help I will greatly appreciate it. Thanks,68viper

Maybe and I mean just maybe a plug wire fell off of the coil pack or the plug and the ticking noise is the electricy jumping the gap between the plug wire and either the coil pack or the plug. I doubt it though, but its one less possibility. Hope this helps. I also find it hard to believe that a wiring kit for a towing would cause this, but u never know. One last thing you could check for any codes, maybe a loss of power to the ECU code? It doesnt sputter or anything before it dies? It just stops? That makes me thing that there is something wrong with the igniton, but i'm no mechanic. :)

Same exact thing happened to my 91'. I would be driving down the interstate and the engine would just die or I would be at a stop light and it would die. It was very random and I thought it was bad gas. Used gas treatment and it didn't help. Changed fuel filter, still didn't help. Then I changed the fuel pressure regulator and halleluia, the problem was fixed and has not recurred since. This has got to be the problem with yours since the symptoms are exactly the same. I picked up the FPR at Autozone for $74. Good luck!

Thanks PhxExplorer,
I found one for $36.00 and put it on. I took it for a 30 minute run and had no problem. I hope that took care of the problem. Appreciate your help. I will let yall now if the problem returns.
