I checked the level on my rear diff and its low. The manual says I should add one of two types of oil depending on axle type. Mine is a D2, which is limited slip. Is that the same as Traction-Loc? Should I use the synthetic oil? If so, when topping up do I need to put in more additive?

I've used conventional in mine without problem. Be sure to put LS additive in though.

Why is it low? Usually there is something going on causing the fluid level to drop. Any leaking seals?
If it has been over 40000 miles since you changed the fluid, you should change it instead of adding new to old.

Can't see any leaks. Just can't feel the oil with my fingers. The truck is new to me so I haven't got the oil change schedule. May as well replace it all I guess...

If its new to you, I recommend changing all of the fluids as soon as possible. Who knows when they were done last.
