ok what i would like to know is are there any differences between the 99 and the 2000 V-8 5.0 explorers? whether it be engine or diagnostic electronics, fuel sytems, or engine systems? any help would greatly help me out. or just any general information. thanks. Robert

To be honest, I don't think there is a single difference (olther than one being a year newer).

that is the EXACT reply i want to hear. does anyone else know if there are any differences?

I agree, I don't think there are any differences for the simple reason that they knew they about to change to the new Explorer anyways, why waste the time and money?

99-01 4 door explorers are nearly identical. At some point the Ford decal on the steering wheel changed, but that's all I know of.

that is awesome. that is the reply i thought i would get. i couldnt think of any differences either but i figured maybe someone on here would know a little more than i would. cool. thanks alot guys.

There has to be a difference... car companies don't just reproduce the identical car. Something ALWAYS changes. What that is, I don't know.

hey lowdpypes it is not letting me acces your homepage. what engine mods are you running? any upgrades to the fuel system? or to the ignition? i would bet bigger injectors and msd ignition. unfortunately i dont have enough cash for those yet. coming soon hopefully. and also what is your best 1/4 e.t. ?

bumper was the same... when did they add the 6 disc changers?

rocket 5979 - No, not really any fuel changes. I talked with a few people at ford and they said that in 98, the fuel system stepped up to a 190lph and larger lines. Whether this is true or myth, I don't know but I do know that I NEVER have run lean and I am not even using the FMU that I bought for the blower. This summer, when the garage is done, I plan on installing new injectors and a new regulator along with the Dis-6, but funds are a little low right now. As for the website, I beleive that mostly everything is listed in cardomain.com. Have any pics of engine mods or good street pics?

Last year, I broke 13's after removing the front driveshaft, transfer and a few other things such as a drag cam, injectors, etc but it was all on loan from a mustang buddy. Last time I went to the track, I was in the 14's (14.7 @ 107? I think... we ran a few cars but I have slips at home). Take into consideration that was running 18's with 285/60's, AWD and no juice. Not too bad...

I've got the 6 disc changer in the console of my '95. I don't think they changed it for those years.

It's simple why they wouldn't change it, costs money to make a tooling change and Ford knew that a redesign was in the works so they saved money by not changing the design specs. Just like the first Gens are really stretched BIIs and Rangers.

Sorry, I meant, when did they start installing the IN-DASH cd changers. my bad...

as for changes... how would they advertise...

COME, CHECK OUT THE NEW EXPLORER... SAME AS LAST YEAR EXCEPT... ONE YEAR NEWER.

They always advertise with something "new"... whether it was offered in different colors or something...

Differences I found at Edmunds (REAL bored at work):

- Split Folding Rear Seat was STANDARD on '00 (option on '99)
- Maximum Cargo Capacity > '99, 81cuft > '00, 80cuft
- Maximum Payload > '99, 900lbs > '00, 750 lbs
- MPG (V8 AWD XLT AUTO) > '99, 14/19 > '00, 16/20

I didn't look into available options between the two.

you also have to look into what made those mileage changes. Was it the fuel system, different tires, exhaust, blah blah blah... just saying there are alot of little things that they try to change. In 98, I mentioned that the fuel system changed then it went back to the 97 setup in 99 cause mileage on the 98's sucked. I average 10-12mpg city or highway. Nasty.

ok here are the latest pictures of my car. i took these right after washing it tonight. it is a little dark but you can still see it ok. i just had to adjust the gain up a little bit to make it work. i will post detailed pics of the supercharger and nitrous when i install those. s/c should be in by end of month if all goes well. and nitrous, well that may be in by the end of next month. depending on when i get my returns back. enjoy.

Besides the things Robbie mentioned, it was mainly options.

*Front side airbags
*Reverse sensing system

Remember, by mid-2000 the "new" explorer was already being spyphotoed. There are NO differences in the '01, because by mid-01 the"old" body style was abandoned and the "new" X was on the market.

I have that in my '99, not that it's a big deal or anything. If it wasn't for this DAMN wedding in April I'd have plenty of money for some mods. DAMN WOMEN.
