How difficult is it to change my front and rear differentials so that i can tow more weight? i.e. raise the ratio from 3.5 to 3.73....

If you want to tow you may want to go with the factory tow package ratio which is 4:10. The rear is pretty simple, but the front you'll have to pull the axle housing out. I'd say 3 hours on the rear and about 6-7 on the front.

Thanks, are any special tools involved, also how much will it cost?

You can drop the front axle in a couple hours if you know your way around your front suspension. Its rather tedious.

I have the factory tow package and the gears are 3.73.

3.73

Yes, my fathers 1998 has 3.73diff , which can handle towing 5000lbs. I was just wondering if it was worth the trouble and cost. I have never pulled an axle off before . Maybe I will just buy a different vehicle. Trailblazer has a good tow capability, with an inline 6cyl.

the front isn't the bad. just takes a little time. the rear is easy

hardest part of the front is hoisting the damn axle back up into position. its so akward because of the way its shaped.
