I figuer that I could buy the header flang, a tube bender, tube, and a flang to mount to stock exaust location.

header flange = $200
tube bender = $200 (ebay)
tube stock 16 feet of 1.625 inch = $40
flange = $50
hard work = ?

total 500 dollars

Would it be worth the work to make my own?
I could make multiple and sell them for half the price of torque monsters. Of course they would be rough compared to Torque Monster headers. But there should have the same results.

oops for got to spell check the name. lol

Will they be CARB exempt?
Will they be made for non P and P heads?
Will they be coated?
Will you stand behind them?

No thanks I'll stick with Torque Monsters.

good luck! This road has been gone down before...... the TMH are still here and selling like hotcakes for a reason

the fit and finish, the coating, the very difficult design and fit, there is ALOT of work that went into the TM headers...of you can make a set for $500 on your own, go for it! You will still want to have them coated?

you forgot you will need the exhaust side flanges also and spark plug wire heat protectors and hardware to mount them, TM headers come with this

the price of the TMH is worth every penny!!!!! dyno tested, proven fit and finish, excellent customer service, and CA emissions legal

this is not an easy header to build, that is for sure.....lots of clearance issues, avoiding the 2 into 1 or 3 into 1 or even 4 into 1 design is tough and clearing the explorer frame, heater box, steering, etc............, Robert has it nailed

My axhaust guy has been building headers for years, for everything from go carts to motorhomes, he saw my TMH headers and was IMPRESSED

He quoted me $800 for a similar product and hes a FAMILY FRIEND

I'm making my own headers for the latter V6 block and yeah its not something I would want to mass produce. I don't know what your fabrication skillsets are but setting up (prep) and the actual TIG welding is taking forever. I'm not even back purging but obviously you would probably need to do so when you are mass producing. Oh and you can't just use any tube bender for headers, you have to use a mandrel setup and one of those usually runs a few thousand dollars.

There is NO WAY you can build as good of a header as the TM's for the 5.0L in an RBV for $500. It can NOT be done. Even if you had the tools to do it.....it can't be done.

And the cheap $200 bender you saw on eBay is NOT a mandrel bender.

Speaking from PERSONAL experience...I've built headers. I've modified headers. I've bought headers.

If the product is good, BUYING them wins EVERYTIME.

I modified a set of 88400's for my GT-40P equipped Explorer. Everything is done on them. But I STILL chose the TMH's. And I would do it again. And again. And not even think twice about it.

You guys are right.
I don’t like the Torque Monster Headers because their design does not look like it will flow that well. I looked in to making my own but it is a daunting task. I would have to keep spark plug access, steering, front axle, shock mounts, dive shaft to front axle, EGR, all in mind when designing them. I drew up some preliminary design. One set looked identical to the torque monsters. Others had the front set of primaries going towards the front of the car first, and then the collectors located some were underneath. Nothing will work all that well. There is too much crap in the way.
Every things value is measured relative to something else. Do the torque monsters flow well compared to the stock manifolds. YES, they flow extremely well. You pick up 40lbs of torque.
I thought about using some manifold off of a 94 mustang GT, modify them to fit. But it would take hours, I would have to change the stock exhaust collector location, make an adapter for the EGR, maifold would have to come off to change spark plugs……. It’s not worth the head ache.
It is possible to make your own headers for a 5.0 explorer? Yes. Could they have better results than torque monsters? Yes. Is it worth it? No.
