Dim Dashboard Lights

Hey stephen & oso,
thx for the great explanations .. good work ;)

I do have one question though:
Is it possible to install different kind of bullbs (eg with a higher voltage) to make the illumination a bit brighter ?

Radikal, I'm not 100% sure if it would cause any problems but here are some things to think about. The new bulb will have to fit in the stock socket (which does not get replaced). Also, I would be careful about higher wattage bulbs putting too much electrical load on the circuitboard that powers the bulbs. You know, the same problem that some here have with putting in higher wattage headlights--they sometimes burn up the stock wiring. Brighter bulbs may work just fine, but I would be careful.

Hey Stephen I noticed that in your first post you described a similar problem as mine... the dashboard lights are simply not bright enough

Did you change ALL the bulbs behind the dash ?
If so, did you notice a light improvement through all the dash area or only behind the 0 - 40 section of the speedo ?

Since one of my lights behind the 0 - 40 section of the speedo burned as well I thought I might as well change all of them..

again, thx for the advice XD

Radikal, the reason mine were not bright enough was that there were 3 of them that were burned out. I did replace all of them when I had the dash apart, so I wouldn't have to do it again when another old one decided to go. Once all of them were working again, with new bulbs, the dash was much brighter than it was before. It's plenty bright enough for me now. I'm sure just replacement with the stock bulbs will be sufficient for you too.

No problem Radikal, glad to help!

Thanks...

Thanks Stephen, but you have almost all the credit, ALMOST....J/K...!:D

Yes, I have the torsion twist, and also a 2" body kit that I made by copying the Performance Accesories Kit, that's the reason I like pictures, it let you have access to a new world!!....

I lifted my explorer and another one from a friend here from the board... no troubles yet, and its been like 5 or six moths from mine....

By the way, yes I have more pics, but I'm still working on it... give me two or three days...

Thanks again, and keep visiting my page, maybe this weekend I will get some pics of a body lift instalation, and post a write up to help someone else...!!

I replaced today the 6 dashboard lights following your instructions. It took me about an hour to do.

Man, it really makes a difference; the numbers are a lot brighter and clearer now.

Thanks a lot for your help !

Marc

Glad to hear it Marc!! :D I'm glad I was able to help you out. Good job!
