Disable TPMS

FYI. Swapped rims on my ‘09 ranger, no sensors. Now I don’t know how true it is but I asked Ford to shut off the dash light and they wouldn’t. Puts them “ on the hook” if something happens related to low tire pressure.

its because after 2006 tire pressure monitoring systems were a federal mandate.... think if it like cutting your cats off you can do it but a shop is only allowed to replace them with approved units, what I wonder is how tpms fits into state inspections would they be able to see its turned off I know they can refuse to issue the sticker over some really stupid stuff but luckly I dont have to deal with inspections

thought that was any vehicle 2008+

I seems that Ford has moved the address that toggles the TPMS warning from one position to another. It will be a slow and tedious process, but we can probably do this.

Starting with your original HEX of 8905 for 720-01-01 (BIN 10001001 00000101), we have to systematically change each set of zeros and ones to 00. Just make sure we don't lose track of what we are doing.
Mine is 10010101 00000101 HEX 9505
Starting with the HEX of 8905 (BIN 10001001 00000101), (note any changes you observe)
First trial: 00001001 00000101, HEX 0905
Second trail: 10000001 00000101, HEX 8105
third trial:10001000 00000101, HEX 8805
fourth trial: 10001001 00000001, HEX 8901
fifth trial: 10001001 00000100, HEX 8904

Then we work on the HEX 68D0: (BIN 01101000 11010000)
First trial: 00101000 11010000, HEX 28D0
second trial: 01001000 11010000, HEX 48D0 (This HEX is found in the ASBuilt for RWD. This is in the same BIN position that turned off my 4x4 indicator on the instrument cluster)
third trial: 01100000 11010000, HEX 60D0
fourth trial: 01101000 00010000, HEX 6810
fifth trial: 01101000 11000000, HEX 68C0 (This was the on in your ASBuilt data... This will be interesting to see what some one had turned OFF)

have you had any luck? i am looking to do the same thing.

In my case:
The hex and bin for 720-01-01:
9505 7FFD
10010101 00000101 01111111 11111101
TPMS data to instrument cluster ON

My recent change on the 5th digit:
9505 3FFD
10010101 00000101 00111111 11111101
TPMS data to IC OFF

Depending you the options of your Explorer, the HEX and BIN is almost certainly different. It's even possible that the address location may be different for different years, so make sure you make a backup of the original codes, and make a copy of the 720 address HEX before your changes

Thankyou. Mine was 9505 6BF9 and I changed it to 9505 2BF9 and it worked!.2008 Ford Explorer Sport Trac.

OR

Just purchase 4 cheap universal wheel sensors LOL

I'm trying to disable my TPMS on a 2008 Explorer. I installed Forscan and am able to read all the AsBuilt codes, but I'm unable to decipher which one is for the TPMS. Has anyone been able to disable the TMPS?

I'm trying to do the same on my 2010 explorer xlt i believe it's 726-02-01 and i've tried codes for different ford vechicles for that year but none have worked, I hope someone can help

As far as i know
None of the tpms asbuild related somehow codes worked ever ,at least at forscan edit level

My suggestion is to replace the wheel sensors, much more easier

Maybe for some. Your costs go into the hundreds of dollars just to tell me my tires have low pressure. For some people this will be the right and best thing to do.

For me it was easier and cheaper to disable the TPMS. $30 for the ELM-USB adapter, a little learning on my part to know how to program the IC module, and I no longer have to worry about the TPMS light.
It’s also defeating a safety feature because you’re cheap.

It’s illegal for anyone to remove any cats on any vehicle that will ever be used on road. Federal crime, your states emissions laws have zero bearing on this.

if you find an answer please let me know mines a 2010 but it might be the same

Has nothing to do with your perception of cheapness, (and FWIW, new sensors, having them programmed, installed, etc isn't "cheap") some of us neither want nor need a nanny light telling us to check our tires when some of us (me, for example) check the air in the tires 3 or 4 times a week.

Been driving 30 years and this is a habit I've had since I was 14...and never have I had a blow out due to a low tire prior to driving. Ever.

@myddad I think I read either here or another forum that on the '10 rigs, TPMS can't be disabled due to being stored in the Asbuilt rather than the IC (instrument cluster).....I could be wrong, but this sticks in my head for some reason....

TPMS it is a part of GEM module (SJB) microprocessor ,you will need something more efficient instead of the simple as build editor (forscan)

More like EEPROM programmer tools though (costs like 2000+ bucks or so)

I Used a hex to d

This worked for me. I used an online Hex to Decimal/Decimal to Hex converter. I changed the second one digit to a zero.
720-01-01 890D 68D4 FB to 890D 48D4 FB I pasted the decimal I wanted back into the converter to get the hex number I wanted to change it to. I can't make it any clearer than that. I haven't needed to convert Hexadecimal numbers to Binery since the comp TIA A+ certification examination. They didn't make it easy.
