I just put on a set of 4 Monroe Reflex shocks and am not impressed. My 95 XLT has 49 K and after 6 years I thought it was time. My CD player has been skipping a little more lately over bumps so this gave me incentive to change. Originally I was going to put Bilsteins on but after reading comments on this board I deccided the Monroes would give me a more car like ride than the Bilsteins. The truck rides just a bit stiffer, hardly even noticeable, but the ride has not improved one bit.
I must say the hardware from the original Mororcrafts
was far beefier than the Monroe hardware. I was tempted to use the old hardware but the nut wouldn't thread on the new front shock on top.
If I had it do over again I would have replaced them with
the Motorcrafts OEM, in my opinion they are of better quality.
One saving grace was that should I ever decide to change these I won't be afraid of snapping the studs on the lower fronts. The Monroes have a slide in bolt and nut, unlike Fords OEMs which studs are press fit and if you break them your in deep pooh.
I'd like to hear others opinions on these shocks.
BTW as soon as I removed my old ones I knew they were still in good condition, still had execllent compression and moved freely.
