Ditch the Double Cardan? Driveline E-Brake, Atlas II into Ranger Dilemma

Because of this thread I went and bought the Parts Mike kit.:D

I purchased a 1350 companion flange to go with it. Looks just like any companion flange:dunno:

I haven't had a working E-brake since I went to rear discs about 15 years ago:eek:

...Cool...:biggthump

..The inspiration for me to get one stemmed from 90Ranajo's build..

..With his build in mind when I went flange shopping for the Ranger dbl Cardan, I wound up purchasing a dual duty flange...It will receive the Ranger Dbl Cardan as well as a big F-Series Dbl Cardan if I decide to go big i the future..

..I hope I didn't go to big for the TC brake to be able to mount behind the flange..

..When I get home this weekend I'll take a picture or maybe I already took one and haven't had time to post it..

..I'm hoping to be able to talk with a couple companies next week and get one ordered pretty quick..I want to get this Atlas in and we are already expecting 100* by this weekend...

..Oh yea, they are predicting Death Valley to beat the record of 129* with this heat wave..

My Explorer has double cardans on both drive shafts. No vibration and I have not noticed any binding. When I finally get the SAS in, I am planning on re-using the front drive shaft.

Forgot to mention that the Parts Mike kit doesn't come with any instructions at all. You get a box of parts and a receipt :(

Dammit.
Now you got me thinking I need a drive shaft E-brake. They make one for my NP-231 with the AA slip-yoke eliminator kit..........Dammit!!!;)

..:shifty_ey ...I was secretly sent here to help stimulate the economy...:p:

Not the economy of my wallet though ;)

..Did you have to buy the flange as I know you do with High Angle Driveline?

..I had some time to make some calls today..

..I've had a couple people on another forum offer up a Parts Mike and a H.A.D. brake set up, never installed without the yokes for a decent price but nobody new what p/n they had or if it would fit my application..

..I then called H.A.D. to see exactly which one I would need for my set up after seeing they had a bunch of options when you look at their page..

http://www.highangledriveline.com/e_brake.html

..After talking to them they said I needed model Alt-3 and my new flange would not work as their e-brake only works with their flange so it would be 375 plus 110 plus(guess) for their specific yoke and they do have a cable brake bracket with a thumb thingy in stock for about $40 and you supply the cable..And they make the units up as each gets ordered so there will be a wait..:thumbdwn:

..It appears that both the PartsMike and AA units include the flange yoke in their prices..I'm am waiting to see if my flange will work with their set-ups first for a possible discount and of course will be my deciding factor as I don't want to have to sell a brand new yoke..

..Advanced Adapters and PartsMike are both closed on Saturday so I will have to try and reach them during this week..:(

..Here is the info on the one I had recently purchased..

..and the plot thickens..

..I called Advanced Adapters yesterday and talked to Jake...According to him, It seems their kit is for the DC 1310/1330 only...and you have to use the yoke they supply..

..I explained that I have the flange for the DC 1310 and also DC 1350 and wanted to get a kit for it rather than being limited to the smaller DC 1310..

..He asked me if I would like to speak to the MFG. who makes it for them as they may be able to help...I said sure but I thought they made all their own stuff since they moved up there...He said they do except for this brake kit..

..Oh yea...The company that makes the kit for AA...:shifty_ey..It's PartsMike..

....PartsMike and HighAngleDriveline are not to far from each other..Coincidence?

Yeah, I learned that too. I wanted to order direct from Advanced, but they said they don't stock them. They recommended that I order direct from Parts Mike.

...I just got off the phone with Jeremy at PartsMike..

..I explained my situation to him and he said that their set up will work with either flat flange (DC-1310 or DC-1350) so I could use my new flange which accommodates both..

..I was going to send him a link just for verification but their internet is down and will be for a couple days..:banghead:

..Fingers crossed as this could save me some money for other stuff..

...Rick...Have you had time to install yours yet?

..I talked to Jeremy again and it seems they still have some internet issues..

..He did acknowledge my Flange is correct for their parts and he would give me a $20 discount for not buying their flange...:wtf:

No I haven't played with it at all. The Pumpkin is in the back garage, and it's been way too hot... You can bet it will be in there before the next T-haven run though:chug:

Started working on my brake today. I was really worried that the rotor wouldn't clear the floor, but it does. I had to trim the catalytic converter heat shield a bit for clearance. The Brake caliper fits too. Everything's really tight. I just mocked it up and pulled it back out.

I then started working on the ebrake system and decided that I'm ditching the floor pedal ebrake for a hand brake setup from Lokar. This is getting expensive

I'm now on hold until I get the goodies from Jegs. I don't want to finalize anything until I have the handle mounted and the cables routed.

This is getting expensive

Haha..You say that like this is the last thing you will buy for mods on your truck..:p:

Trying to find a used one is not really happening either..:banghead:
