whats the difference between the cat-back and a header anyway.

can someone tell me the difference between the two

I don't think headers will give you the towing power you're looking for. The three best things you can do for low end grunt are:

1.Tune-up
2.Regear
3.Chip

headers are the pipes that attach to the motor and feed the rest of the exhaust system. Catback is exactly that, the exhaust behind the cat, which includes the muffler and tailpipe.

Like Jason said, headers will most likely NOT give you what you're looking for. He's also right about what would help. If you need more power, get an intake kit and catback for sure. See what your stock diff gears are and you might want to gear lower. A chip would also help, especially if you have an auto.

I would recommend a custom cat back as well as an improved intake ( KKM ).

Good luck....

Snooper: I have a 93 EB I bought new and have towed pop-ups and small travel trailers a lot over the past ten years on hot Texas 100 degree plus trips. The 4.0L V-6 is a strong, torquey little puller as is. Mine now has 121K on it. Remember torque, not horsepower, rules and s the main factor in towing, as 18 wheel drivers will tell you.

You know, many miles ago, when I replaced the OE factory muffler, I felt like I lost some torque. Many towing technicians/mechanics who write columns in travel trailer magazines suggest changing to headers designed for towing, not speed. And that is the problem; most I have looked at are designed to increase hp and speed, not torque.

More low end, useable torque from 1800-2600 RPM is what you need but short of spending a lot of money, it is going to be hard to get. The excellent 93 4.0L we have already generates practical useable torque at 2400 RPM. Good luck! Mike
