Do I have Side Airbags??

Just purchased my 2nd 02 explorer. first one was new...got totaled and now bought another one. This is an '02 Eddie Bauer and the dealership I bought it from had side air bags listed as one of the options on the explorer. My question is how can i determine if i really do have side airbags? there has got to be something simple to check. The guy a bought the car from was a bit shady and i'm uneasy about trusting him. Just bought it anyway because it was a great deal. thanks.

Being in the fire service we receive traing on what to look for when dealing with airbags in a crash situation. Anywhere there is an airbag should be clearly marked. Look on the side of the seat as you get in or look up above the window on the trim and see if you see any embosed lettering indicating there is an airbag system present. I have a 2002 Explorer and I don't recall a side airbag option being available. Could have been but I just don't recall it.

As JCR mentioned, with side airbags there are labels--they are located on the B pillar near the roof-line. Also, the 4th position of the VIN should be either a B, C, D, E, or an F if it has side airbags (P, R, U, Y, or Z if not).

I ordered mine as an option on my 2002 Ex rec'd in December, 2001.
