Do I have to go to the dealer to get the code for the keypad on the exterior of the front door door?

Yes, those other methods may work for early models but after exhausting a lot of time search the net and the vehicle. Dealer was the only solution.

i have an obdlinkmx bluetooth obd2 scanner , i use that connected to my laptop along with forscan and it will allow the reading of the keycodes , can program keys and almost anything. 2010 xlt 2wd btw

It should be printed on the back of the fuse box under the dash on the drivers side. it's 5 digits.

Its just like in this video, but its hard to see. You will need a flashlight and a little mirror.

I've got a 2006 XLT and thats where mine was. It was hard to read the numbers but I played with it and got it. Its on the back of the fuse box between the fusebox and the outer wal, but on the end closest to the drivers seat (if that makes sense)

It's not on a 2008. can get it with forscan and elm327

I know that the PC version of Forscan with the Extended Lic allows access to keycode and programming keys/remotes. I think the obd2 scanner needs to be able to do MS-CAN ( Ford PID ) to be able to acheive this. but i could be wrong. I use OBDLink MX Bluetooth connected to a Dell laptop.

easy-peasy

you are correct you need to be able to read ms-can . you can get an elm327 with ms switch. the one I got I think was $25 and forscan is a free download and the extended license is free

Double check the manual, I just bought a used 2007 and the original card with the code was still attached to the page..
