do i need the new u-bolts?

i want to lower my '02 sport. what is the purpose of the new u-bolts that comes in the lowering kits? are they simply longer? i'm not looking for a drastic lowering. if i just use 1" blocks, can i do it with the stock u-bolts? and if so, is there any other hardware i need?

if the whole things is a matter of just loosening the torsion bolt for the front and slipping in a 1" block in the rear, i'd like to do it today!

You'll have to check the stock length of the u-bolt to determine if they'll need replacing. More than likely they will with a 1" block. Just make sure you have 4-5 threads sticking above the nut on the u-bolt. Post some pics before and after.

you need extended ones even for just 1 inch

If you use the new ones you can cut the old ones off with a torch.
