Hello... i hope im posting this on the right area.... ok... i have a 1996 xlt explorer.... i lost the keys for it... i decided to replace the ignition swich (new key) but i did it the wrong way.... i bust the whole thing...
at the end... i got it done... didnt broke the alarm sensor.... but when i took it appart... the alarm went off.... i dissconected the battery and put the new one..... it worked fine.... but i just cant reset the alarm.... and of course i cant start the engine.... i managed to fix the part were the horn and the lighst go on and off.... (i put the two wires together the ones on the alarm sensor) but the theft light wont stop blinking... and i still cant start the engine.... i can do it using the screw driver trick (solenoid) but not with the key... theres no power going to the solenoid cause of the alarm... i hope i can get help here.... i dont want to eleiminate the alarm
and get power from other source to the solenoid.... thank you....

Welcome to the forum.

Do a search for PATS. You will find out your problem.

Thank you very much for your time.... and all the other guys too... the key i had (the lost one) it was a regular key.... my explorer is a 96... should i use the pats instructions for a new key anyways....?

I have one more problem... while messing with the alarm sensor i pull one of the wires n broke it from the sensor... do i need to put it back in order to do the pats procedure...? and is a key just like the lost one... just a regular key... thanks...

Was the new ignition from an explorer 97 or older? If so, it shouldn't have anything to do with PATS

I got the new ingnition from autozone.... its new...

But if the cylinder was for a '98 and newer Ex, (they may have subbed it at Autozone) maybe it's looking for a PATS key which you do not have... Just a thought...

My explorer is a 96.... it doesnt have the chip on the key... but i already fix the probblem..... i had to let the alarm go... i just put a new wire going to the solenoid and it starts right up.....
