I broke the part under that red plug in the picture. It's kind of hard to see, but I'd need to take off the upper intake manifold to get a good shot at it. I believe it has something to do with the temp. since I haven't had any temp readings since that broke. It's an SOHC, and there is another grey plug to the right of it, and it's near the chain tensioner if that helps. I want to replace the part but don't know what it is called to ask for the part!

Thank you,

I did a little more searching and it's right next to the ECT sensor? Are there two of them? One with a grey plug and one with a red/orange?

Is that the temp sending unit? Anyone?

Bump?

My guess is it's the temp sensor for the gauge cluster. You should have two temp sensors, one for the engine computer and the other for the gauge cluster. Typically, the engine computer temp sensor will use two wires, and the gauge cluster sensor will use only one wire.

This would also explain why you lost your temp reading on the gauge cluster.

My backround is primarily with GM engine systems, but this is how the temp sensors are usually implemented.

With a little slip of the wrench (given the wrong tool size), I broke the piece below that plug in half, it's kind of dangling. I've also noticed a sputter too afterwards, thought I don't know if they're related. Like I said though, that my temp gauge went dead after this broke, so I think you may be right. Anyone know for sure though?

sorry..im not much help here..just wanted to pop in and say i hope u get it fixed..if all else fails id try either a FSM or a haynes/chiltons manuel see if they have an exploded veiw of the top of the engine or something like that

I really should get one of those manuals anyway. Maybe I'll bring it to the dealer and ask them what it is and place an order for the part. Otherwise I'll just get a manual and get the part from Fordparts.com.

id get the FSM..the stealer may look under ur hood and all the sudden ur engine turns into a 3cyl geo engine that needs to be replaced lol
