2003 Ford Explorer NBX
I was driving my 2003 Ford Explorer NBX V-8 4x4 home tonight from work. Odometer just turned 1800 miles. I had driven about three blocks and had reached a speed of about 35mph. I started to slow down for a red light. I slowed down to just about 5mph or so when the engine or maybe it was the transmission caused the truck to "lurch" or more like "chug" three times. It felt like the engine wanted to stall. The headlights and dashlights all dimmed as if the engine was going to stall. After the three lurches I had come to a complete stop and the engine then idled fine. This is the only time it has done this. Obviously I'm taking it in to have it looked at. But do you think this is a transmission problem (i.e. maybe it didn't shift down into 2nd or 1st as I slowed down causing the engine to bog down) or maybe an idle problem? I'm not so sure about these 5 speed transmissions. I know they are suppose to learn your way of driving but mine still just doesn't feel right. Can't really put a finger on it but just is alot different from the old four speed. Thanks for any info.

Your computer may just need a reflash. I have heard that there is a tsb that concerns some of the 02+ 5R55W trannies. Of course, your dealer will know this already if it applies to your truck.
