I'm replacing the speakers in my Ex, and I found a great deal on some Polks on Crutchfield. But they are 5x7 -- how do those fit a 6x8 hole? People here have said they use them and they are satisfied, so I'm a little confused.

Also, I'll be pulling out some Pioneer 6x8s to put in these Polk 5x7s. That sounds like a bad idea overall since they are smaller speakers. Does this really make a difference?

Thanks,
Blue

It really doesn't make a difference. 5X7's and 6X8's fit in the same holes. A 5x7 will usually have 4 holes on one side for fitting both 5X7 and 6X8 screw mounts, and probably vice versa. In terms on sound quality really the only thing that matters is how well the speaker is designed, and what the specs are on it.

Thanks for the reply. I think I read that the Polks are more efficient than the Pioneers, so they would produce more/better sound without using an outboard amp. I am running an Alpine 9805 that says it does 50w/ch, so I don't have a whole lot of power to work with.
