I'm wondering if anyone knows what precessor(s) is in the EEC-V computer on the V8 Explorer/Mountaineer, especially '97. I was just trying to find out just in case anyone has taken a look at his or her computer. I'm trying to keep from having to pull mine out just yet just to find out that there isn't an EEC Tuner available for my processor.

After '96 all Ford vehicles have the OBD-II compliant EEC-V computer.

So you're telling me that my 95 X has OBD-I and the EEC-IV?

That's correct, suprising isn't it?

The easiest way to tell if your X is OBD I or II is to look under the dash on the driver side. If it is OBD II there will be a connector that is about 2" wide and 3/4" tall that sticks out of the lower dash cover (some may still have a cover over the pins). If its OBD I there will be no connector under the dash (its under the hood). The connector is used for interfacing with the ECM and used for diagnostics. Prior to OBD II auto manufacturers were allowed to design and install their own ALDL (diagnostic connector) any where thye wanted. All OBD II equipped vehicles were requiored to use the same connector and install it in the passenger compartment.

My explorer has the OBD I connector and the OBD II connector, but it is OBD I.

No, I know that the computer is ODB-II (EEC-V). I'm trying to find out what different processors (such as A9L on '89-93 Mustang) are in service on these computers for the V8 Explorers/Mountaineers.

I have an '95 and i have a connector under the steering wheel. Does this mean I have OBD-II?

I was told by a speed shop here locally that there was on way to reprogram or tweak any ford computers at all except for performance chips.

but I think hes full of it.. I think most shops around here are full of it.. they're really frustrating. .you even so much as mention an explorer to a "performance" shop and they at LEAST snicker.. one place openly ciritisized me for "trying to mod out a family car"

Todd, 95's have that but are OBD I, and you still read the CEL codes under the dash.

Yup, 95s are screwy :)

To settle the matter: They are OBD I with the OBD I connector under the hood. BUT: they have the OBD II connector under the steering wheel as Ford knew it would have OBD II in 96. On some 95s the underdash connector works, on some it don't.
