I noticed this knocking noise under my 93" the other day after doing a oil change the noise isn't there until the engine warms up and it goes away when revving the engine so i don't think it's internal to the engine, it had a reman engine put in 2500 miles ago transmission was out 1500 miles ago for rear main seal replacement, my mechanic informed me that there was a missing torque converter bolt from a previous repair i guess the shop that replaced the engine, so he went ahead and replaced the missing bolt, is this the noise that a bad flex plate would make?? It's really not that noticeable unless you're under the truck could this just be the exhaust rattling or something? Merry Christmas! And thank you for any help! video of sound below,

Is this the same vehicle that you posted a thread about it ticking when cold then the noise went away when warm? I've had a broken flexplate and for me, it sounded similar to a baseball card in the spokes of a bicycle. Made the noise cold or hot.

What TC bolt did he talking about?

Your video sounds like the flex plate is comming loose. I had this similar sound miles later after transmission change,
cause i didn't tightened down the spacer bolts correctly.

Install the spacer, flywheel, and tighten the bolts in sequence in two steps:
(This is for the sohc, maybe the torque is similar)
1. Tighten to 13 Nm (10 lb-ft).
2. Tighten to 71 Nm (52 lb-ft).

Maybe the 4 torque converter nuts came loose, they should be self-locking.
But some nuts are not and should be loktited.

Unfortunately the tranny has to came out again to see whats going on.
Good luck and a Merry Christmas.

Yes this noise only happens when hot unlike the lifters in find that odd if it's the flex plate

Disco battery and Take starter out and look see hahahaha huge pita but it is the only way to see up in there and you can only see a little unless you have a scope

Torque converter nut was missing? That ia not good that means trans shop either missed one or they didn’t tighten them enough. The tc nuts are self locking

Yeah I don't think it's caused any damage tho sense it wasn't making that noise until now I've noticed it's only when the engine is hot

UPDATE took the explorer out for a drive and now it's intermittent? There are portions of time where there is no noise or it gets really quiet then it comes back even out it's loudest it's not very noticeable unless you're under the car is this typical of a loose or cracked flex plate? I guess I'll have the shop that did the rear main seal and oil pan gasket have a look when I drop it off for a new window regulator and speedometer cable grease,
