so i was in o'reillys yesterday tryin to do some troubleshooting on my ex. anyways, the guy workin there tried recommending using 75w-90 gear oil plus a half a bottle of lucas for my rear diff and ford calls for 75w-140 gear oil. not sure if he knows what he is taling about (he claims to work at a ford dealership for 14 yrs) i dont trust using anything than what it calls for especially when it comes to oils. if this is true then that would work out great bc i have some 75-90 layin around. i am just wondering if u guys would recommend doing it that way. i do live in ohio and it will be snowing here soon.

i've worked for o'reilys, autozone and advance. my experience is that 99% of the people that work in these stores don't know swat about cars. 75% don't know anything other than what the computer look-up tells them. go with what your owners manual (or Ford) recommends.

thats what i figured. ive never used anything other than what it calls for before. i definitely dont want to mess up my rear end or limited slip. just wanted to make sure. not that i would listen to what people at stores like that.

You can't go wrong following the manufacturers recommendations. The trouble with these discount stores is that they typically hire anybody who is willing to work for minimum wage, work nights, weekends and holidays. Automotive background/knowledge is often a negative to their management pyridine because people will these skills demand more money.
