dome light problem

is the front dome light supposed to come on with the rear light on a 1997 explorer or is there a switch to turn it on and off when doors open? i have only found the switch to turn it on with doors closed. the rear light comes on when doors open but no front lights

Both front and rear dome lights come on when door is opened in my '97 EB.
