I have a 91 explorer and the drivers side door sits low and is out of alignment. I was wondering if there is any way to adjust the door so i can raise it about 1/4 or so inch. that is about how low it sits. when the door is open i can lift up the door and there is some play. it looks like there is some play in the lower hinge pin on the driver side door. is there anyway to a :( djust this? Thanks

Common problem with early X's. The pins and bushings are worn out. Lower is usually the first to go..eventually the upper will wear out too, then you'll be lifting up on the door just to get it closed. Easy fix...just go to local auto store and buy the replacement door hinge kit. Takes a couple hours if your replacing both upper and lower pins. FYI: its easiest to just use a dremel and cut the old pins off, if not you'll be fighting with it all day! Do a search for door hinge replacement...# of posts, tips, on how to !!! Good luck!

Do one at a time, so you keep the door on. You won't have to disconnect the wiring, which is a pain. LOL,

I just did this to my front 2 doors. I use a jackstand to hold the door and take off one hinge at a time. If you use a jackstand, position it in the middle of the door and use a towel between.

If your hingepin holes are not circle, but mis-shaped, it would be a very good idea to replce the hinge all together. The hinge repair kits have copper bushings, which will mold into the mis-shaped holes and start to go loose again.

Also, keep in mind that its usually the lower hinge that needs the fix, but the upper ones go just as fast.

Yeah i had this problem too. I had gone down to the wreckers and found an old X there with good Driver side door hinges and just replaced mine. But it is a real pain in the ass. The top hinge has a nut on the inside of the truck that is only accessible by removing some dash components then fighting your way inside to get at the nut. I would recommend trying the pin replacement repair first unless the hinge is totally worn out. Then just adjust it until it closes correctly, chances are you may not have to adjust the door if the hinges are in their original locations. Have a look at the lock pin too, they tend to wear out when the door sags due to the climb it must make when being closed.
