I have the same problem, only with just the passenger side rear door. And I can't get it open to try to work on it. Looking forward to see the answers.

try taking the door panel off and watch the linkage move while you open the doors using the handles. have the door open, but close the latch closed when your trying this. if you pull the handle, the rod moves, but the latch doesn't open, try to push the linkage down with your finger. if it opens with you pushing the down, just tweak the rod a bit. if it doesn't, the latch might either need to be taken out and sprayed with so Teflon grease, or the latch just might be worn out. i hope this helps you.

Thanks for the reply..Im gonna tinker with it this weekend and see what i can figure out..Thanks again..Rodney

i have the same problem with my ex except the way my rear door handles work is almost like gears to say the least...the part of the handle you pull on and the part of the handle that actually moves the rod for the latch are two seperate pieces. i think the teeth or whatever is joining those pieces together when you pull the handle broke or something and that is why the handle can move but the door wont open...much like a child safety lock feel

The door handles have a tendency to brake the gears on the handles. They are easy to fix. The handles are cheap on Ebay.

my mom has had this problem with her mountaineer, she has had a few handles broke now because people just keep trying to pull on them really hard, i have put new handles on them and they still wouldnt work. after looking at the linkage I just sprayed a bunch of PB blaster on the entire latch and on the inside and let it sit in, they loosened up a bit and the handles started working again. dont mess with the linkage or buy new handles until you are sure it isnt just stuck with a bunch of gunk and crap inside of it!!

Actually the door handle is relatively cheap at the dealer. I would go OEM anymore.
plus they are easy to install.
