I was cleaning the interior of my 95 XLT when my hand went back and forth over the "Lock/unlock" button on the passenger door. As soon as I did, i heard a number of clicking sounds from under the dashboard that sounded like the opening and closing of a relay. From that point on, anything that runs off the battery has been rendered inoperative. I think that the factory- installed anti lock protection was triggered and an ignition kill switch was activated.
When i attempt to start the car, there is no sound. you cannot even hear the sound of the fuel pump. The keyless remote works fine and the doors can be locked and unlocked with it. However, when the remote is used to lock the doors, the red "THEFT" light on the dashboard does not stay lit. It lights for a fraction of a second and then goes out. When I open the car door, the light in the overhead console clicks on and off in time with the clicking of a relay under the dashboard. The headlights do not work, nor does the horn.
This problem happened to me several years ago, and a wise service tech explained how to overcome this problem. I do not remember his advice at this time.
Are these symptoms familiar to any of you? I am looking at having my car towed a long way and I would like to avoid that.
