My door lock remote no longer works after battery was unhooked to do some work. I remember this was a dealer add-on and I didn't get any paperwork on the remotes. Anyway, when started, there is a constant clicking noise coming from the drivers side door. I have searched the posts and tried everything that I found to no avail. Can anyone offer any suggestions (other than a shotgun). The vehicle is a '96 XLT 4x4 4dr. Thanks.

Try reprogramming the remote.

Reprogram the remote? Hmmmmmm. O.K. , I give, how would I go about doing that? Haven't heard of that one.

 I bet you were refering to turning the ignition off/on 5 times. I saw that in another post and tried that, but, it didn't work. The remote was not factory installed but dealer installed from, what I suspect, aftermarket parts. The fobs have no Ford or any other markings on them. Think I will visit the dealer tomorrow and see if the mechanic can remember the name of the remotes they used or maybe will yank the door panel and see what I can see...

O.K. I found the fix for anyone interested or who may have had aftermarket keyless entry dealer installed and not get paperwork on it like I did. (Man that was dumb). Anyway, I contacted the dealer who put me in touch with the installer they were using at the time. He told me to disconnect the negative battery cable and, while pushing the key fob button, reconnect the negative cable. After two or three seconds the door locks cycled and the fix was done. Don't know if this works for all aftermarket kits or not (probably not) but during the conversation the name of the system was never mentioned. I didn't know the name and he didn't mention it. Maybe the guy has been using the same systems since 1996, do ya think? Problem solved and I hope this may help someone along the way. :)

Well what do ya know !?!?!
Glad you are back in business
