nobody can answer that question correctly. there is no "best" speaker. it all depends on the listener, type of music, installation, vehicle, power source, etc...

a component set will perform better than a 5X7 or 6X8 full range speaker. if money is no object you could get a 5 1/4" rainbow component set for $7000.00

if your price range is under $1000, then Focal Utopias are a great choice.

if you just want some 5X7's for the doors then there are a lot of good choice out there. when you ask people what to get, they will usually recommend what they have. just because they believe theirs is the best. i recommend that you go to a car audio shop and listen to different brands and develop your own opinion. only you know what you like.

good luck:)

lol that is so true :p This is a good place to learn about your options, But I wouldn't get something just because people on this board say it's good. My suggestions are MB Quarts, Polk Audio DX7s, Kenwood Excelon & Infinity Kappa 6x8s.

The question comes up every other day....and every other day I say, "I love my Polk dx7's" :D

rainbow component speakers sound like Sh@!. They are over price speakers. In euorpe these speakers are garbage. They just sell them in the USA for a lot of $$ because people don't know better. I heard a car with Rainbows and one with Bostons...it was amazing how much better the bostons sounded! I messed around with the rainbows for a while and couldn't get them to even sound nearly as well as the bostons...

Okay, maybe a little off topic . . .

How do you get a the front speaker covers off from a 1st generation Explorer ??

I mean the ones in the door. . .

Paul, you have to remove the whole door panel. you cant just remove the grille.

Surprisingly yes, I like them. They sound good, clear and aren't too harsh, and are fairly cheap, 150 bucks.

how are the Boston Acustics FS80? i can't seem to find any in stores to test out.

-[ personally .... ]-

personally bruh, i like my kicker rs5 component speakers in the doors of my XLT. they're clear as hell, especially when you've got the right amplifier pushin' it.

yes, i know most people suggest using their equipment, and well, i am one of em, but i'm tellin you, these are made to be pushed to the limit.

not enough money, and i don't feel like rewiring falf my truck. i'll be pushing these using the stock head unit.

whats the rear mounting depth for a 2dr 99 sport? basically, will 2-1/8" fit in the rear speaker holes?

thanks,
dre

I'm running the FS80s in my Ex, and I gotta say I love them. I would recommend them to you any day. You have my vote for the FS80s

P.S. It may be a little far for you to go to test them out, but I got mine at Mobile Soundwaves in Atlanta
