My local dealer carries Xenarc HID headlights. Those are the ones that are a complete headlamp replacement (which allows them to be DOT approved). Anyways, he told me that a set for the Explorer is on the way. He wasn't sure exactly which yeas, but he said they were coming. Let's hope he's right.

I think they are making the kits for 02 models...bah

all I've heard was that Sylvania was coming out with HID headlights for newer cars...... when is the X coming out? don't know... better check the website..

here's the link to the F 150 upgrade kit...... nothing about Explorers yet!

buuuuuuuu

they even sell sealed beam.... wow! lots of old cars could be equiped with this stuff!

That is expensive!!

:(
they just wrote back to me...... wow! that was fast! For now they don't plan on making HID Xenarc headlights for Explorers although they will let me know within the next couple of days when these will go into production.....

expensive, huh? well, it's the entire headlight you're talking about plus balast, electronics and cables....

I've had mine in for a while now and still no trouble. As long as you aim them properly they will be fine. The replacment kits are great! Just get one of them.

$900 for that isnt bad at all IMHO. If thats 2 assemblies. Too bad they dont make em for 95 to 2000 EXs. get rid of our fluted lenses. comparing to the new 01s and up is like our older EXs have sunglasses on. F150s get everything.

just use anHID conversion kit. I bought mine off of Ebay for $500. It has been about a year, and they are still perfect. Brighter than all hell!!!! Sure I get a few people flashing their high beams at me, but I've never been stopped by the police.

QuadCam... you got any pics of them installed? Your homepage link doesnt work.

what about power issues?
does the stock system supply enough current to run HIDs?

i'll see if i can find the pics again. I also have piaa 1500 driving lgiths in the stock air dam.

also, the HIDs take much less current to run than halogens; they just take alot of current to ignite them. I used the stock wiring to trigger a relay so that i could use a 10ga. power power wire to get the proper current to ignite them. The 10 ga. wire is hooked directly up to the battery with a 40 amp inline fuse.

Before I rewired them using the 1- ga wre and the relay, I would get inconsistant ignition on the lights. Now, I haven't had a single misfire on the lights. They light up instantly. Also, the head light housing are also much cooler than with halogens.

QuadCam,

What kind do you have? I have never had any problems with mine. they are Phillips and just plugged right into the stock bulb plug and then two power wires, 10ga I think. Works great, never had a "mis fire" or any problems. You gotta love the light! HID's are the best!

my HIDs use the phillips transformers/igniters, and I have the D2S bulbs. I believe most HID kits use the D2R bulbs. The D2S bulbs are brighter, but they were designed for projector-beam housings (like in most BMWs.)

I got my kit off of Ebay from a shop called xenonshop.com. I think they are out of business now. The xenonshop.com guy wasn't much of a wiring guy; I had to explain to him why it was necessary to use relays, and how to use them.

Cool, I understand the relays, the set I got had them already wired in. All I had to do was plugin the Ballast and then two power wires to the positive. I just never heard of them mis firing.
