I was wondering if anyone has tried changing their oil at very short intervals every now and then to flush out the engine.

I have gotten the idea most people don't recoment additives or pre oil change flush/treatments. But to clean out the engine good, when its time to change my oil i was thinking of doing a regular oil change, but use El cheapo oil and filter, run it for a little bit maybe a day, then change it agian using my regular oil and filter.

I know not all the dirt and gets removed when the oil it changed so would this flush more of it out? Would the little bit of El cheapo oil that remains in the pan, cauze a problem when i put in the good stuff? Or would it be point less?
Oh incase u need to know i have 92 4wd xlt with approx 175,000, i had been using Mobil 1 since i bought it at 135,000 recently switched to Amsoil. Engine runs great, and only very slight pinging on hard accelerations in hot temps 90s+
Any opionions would be greatly appreciated. Thanx to everyone for the help over the years

are you using mobil 1 synthetic? also what weight oil are you using. I have a 95 X and I use mobil 1 fully synthetic with the fram oil filter and I love it. I know it says to use 5 weight but im running 10 weight case of how old my truck is. the only bad thing about a synthetic oil is that once you use it you should keep on using it.

What you suggest is simply NOT needed, An engine run with decent oil and changed ay ~3k miles WILL BE clean.

You are just wasting yoir money,

Use quality oil and filter and change at REGULAR intervalsm such as 3k.

Good kuck....

whats the difference between 5w-30 and 10w-30??? I have 110k on my 93 and have been running mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-30 for awhile now. Should I change??

I am not sure there is too much difference between 5W-30 & 10W-30 Mobil 1 but 5W-30 might be a little better in colder climates. Perhaps an engineer would know. I switched to 10W-30 Mobil 1 when my Explorer had 8K on it. It now has about 107K without any engine related problems. I tow a lot in hot Texas weather therefore I chose to use 10W-30W Mobil 1 early on. Mike

Ok, its what i thought, not neccesary, just checkin. I do change my oil ever 3k, in the winter i was using mobil 1 0-30 and 5-30 in the summer, when i switched to amsoil i put in 5-30.

If you are already using synthetic, the only reason to consider changing to 10w30 is if your X is burning oil. Changing to a heavier grade will help slow down the burning. If you're not burning oil with 5W30, don't change over. As for cleaning out your motor, one of the big drawbacks is you may create some leaks.

If...

If you should have some reason to "clean out" your engine, mulitple changes will work.

I bought my Ex with about 70k miles on it. At about 98k miles my first wife decided to run off. She said all she wanted was the Ex. Fine. She took it. She didn't make payments. Judge gave it back to me. All that took three months. In that time, she put on 26k miles and NO oil changes. When I got it back, the oil came out like cold honey, seriously. I always use Pensoil 10w40, so I bought two cases and two ACDelco filters. I canged the oil and put on a new filter. Then drove it for two days. Then changed the oil only. Then two more days. Etc., etc., etc. I changed the oil four or five times and the filter twice over a two week span. That last oil change came out just a little dark, as it would with a good 3000 mile change. Since then I've kept up with 3-4k mile changes with the same oil and filter every time. I've now got 156k and it still runs like a champ.
