I'm in need of a new drive belt that fits my '02 4.0L xlt. I already went and tried 3 different ones that were meant for it but none fit, it was an inch too short. 2 were from a parts store and the other from the ford dealer. Is there any one else who has encountered this problem and was able to fix it? Am i supposed to stretch it or something???

When you say drive belt, you mean the serpintine belt, right.

Taking into account that you are installing the new belt correctly, and useing the pry bar tool to relieve the tention on the spring pully, you might have the wrong size belt. I just replaced my belt about 1 month ago ( Drive Rite, v-ribbed belt #5060855DR (6PK2170) from Kreagens/ Checker Auto, here in Ca. It is possible to put the belt on the wrong way and not follow the correct routing, I did this and ended up cutting a groove in the lower cooling hose. This ended in replacing the hose. Hope you don't do as i did. Hope this helps.

thanks, i've followed the schematics exactly and when i found it didn't fit i just put the old one back on. all i have here in canada is Part Source.. any chance of a link to that same belt you got which will ship here?

Take the old belt with you to the parts store and put them side by side, make sure they're the same length .

No Canadian Tire near you?

They have sold you the belt for the V6 OHC engine. It is about 40mm shorter than the belt for the V6 OHV (pushrod) engine. I just had this happen. Good Luck.
