i have a trailmaster 4" lift kit part #fb124ssv that was supposed to be put on the truck tonight. i lost the install directions so i called for new ones and was told that i can't put this lift on my truck without a new $700 driveshaft. i have a 95 explorer so i don't know if this is for the 98's or if i do in fact have to wait until i can get $700 for a new driveshaft. the guy on the phone told me if i don't get the new one i will blow up the stock one and screw up my transfercase.

Your ds should be fine. On my '95, the rear shaft was fine at about 5.5"-6" of lift in the back.

$700!! That's friggin outrageous! You should easily be able to find a local shop that can extend your current shaft for anywhere from $50 to $200 (make sure you get it balanced also).

no they said my front driveshaft....i didn't know i had one so this was all news to me

I will sell you a driveshaft for $700 :) heck I'l lhave it built and pay shipping for that much! OUch!

Just kidding, glad you have this board, $700 should buy you a the lift, instructions and driveshafts...

Your D shaft should be fine.

ok well then i'll just go ahead and have it put together. i'm just so tired form exams i'm not thinking straight and don't want to rush the lift just to have to replace the transfer case.

Explorer 96-00
4" Trailmaster 00-01
Will not fit all wheel drive models, May require ft driveshaft CVDS47.
CVDS47 $660.00
so now here's the deal my 95 has controltrac but goes into 2wd. so is all this moot to me?

the one they are talking about is the ones that dont have any selections just a ful time AWD case.

its a 95 and has a 2 speed tcase... should have a switch on the dash with 4x2, 4x4, and 4lo right? if it does.. no worries... your current driveshaft is fine
