Drive shaft U-joints?

That sounds like a transmission/tailshaft problem and not a driveshaft problem.

Ah hah! Its the slip yoke, couldnt remember the name for the life of me. The slip yoke has play going into the transmission.

not quite a slip yoke, since it has no "slip" :p:

but then again, I don't know what the yoke looks like at the transmission tailhousing since I haven't seen the transmission tailhousing of a 2WD 4R70W.

my guess is that the bearing for the yoke is toast, which would cause an excessive amount of play there.
