The drivers side window on my '97 Explorer seems to be off track, for lack of a better explanation. It goes down a couple of inches , but it's clearly "crooked". I can hit the power window switch and it goes back up straight, but when I push it to go down, it goes down a few inches and stops but it's definitely crooked. Any help? I'm not extremely mechanically inclined - is this something I can fix easily?

It goes crooked when going down because the glass is hanging up in the rear window channel due to wear and dirt in the channel. I have two Explorers that occasionally suffer from this.

Try this:
1. Get yourself a can of Liquid Wrench brand foaming silicon spray.
2. Help the glass to go down by pushing on the rear of the glass to help it go down straight.
3. Using the straw that comes with the spray can, liberally spray silicon down the front and rear window channels. Try not to make a mess by spraying it directly on the glass (it's hard to get silicon off glass).
4. Run the window up/down a few times and see if it begins to go down normally.

You may need to repeat this application once or twice a year. If you keep allowing the glass to hang up, eventually you'll ruin the window regulator and nee to replace it.
