I found plenty of threads about driver-side windows but I could not find any that match my symptoms.

One-touch-down works just fine as do all the other controls on the driver's door. A few months ago it started that intermittently when I would go to put the driver window UP, it would go in short increments (maybe 2"), stop, then go, repeating this pattern at a steady rhythm with a matching click from (I think) a relay under the dash, and also with the interior lights blinking in time as well (when on). Sometimes the window would go up fine.

A few weeks ago it went from happening intermittently, to every time I put the driver window up so now I'm finally trying to track it down. I checked and replaced the power window relay, and checked the One-Touch Down relay and the Battery Saver relay. This morning I pulled the door panel off and checked all the plugs and connections and wires that I could get to. I think the motor is fine because when I unplugged it, the clicking/flashing remained the same except the window didn't move of course.

I just checked the exact order of events when I press and hold the UP button with the interior lights on:
  1. the window moves up 1-2"
  2. window stops
  3. interior lights go off for a split second at the same time as the relay clicking noise.
  4. interior lights back on
  5. repeat
The one possible clue I stumbled on is that the above behavior occurs with the key to ON (engine on or off), or key to ACCY. If I have the doors closed, turn the key from ON or ACCY to OFF, where the accessory power is still on by delay, THEN REMOVE THE KEY, then the window will go up just fine! I cannot figure out the difference in the power path that would cause it to work correctly in that one circumstance.

Any ideas to check are greatly appreciated!

Does your ignition turn freely? When was the last time you had a fresh key made?

I recently installed a new ignition cylinder that came with new keys (Dorman). The old one was wonky and loose where I'd often get the "key in ignition" warning chime even when the key was removed. I still have the old one. I can't honestly say if the full-time window up issue started when I installed the new cylinder but it's possible.

Apparently the "full time" window issue started when I put in the new ignition cylinder. I put the original one back in and it's back to intermittent. Is it the cylinders? Do I need to bite the bullet and get the Motorcraft part?

I would check the wiring in there they can get pinched and break inside the covering without visible open break. Get a meter and ohm them where ever you can get to both ends at. As far as the Motorcraft part might be worth a shot. I know on my merc it threw a check engine light for the thermostat not opening/closing fast enough even though new I had to get a Motorcraft one and haven't had a issue since and in my X according to my sct data log it keeps the temp at a average of 191.95 and its a 192 thermostat, so there good parts.

I only mention the key because I had some weird issue with my X other than it sometimes not wanting to turn the cylinder and after having a fresh key cut it fixed them. I assume the keys just wasn't making the contacts touch good enough because it was wore.

Hmm, I'll try to check the contacts inside where the cylinder goes... maybe there's a problem there.

It could be just let me know what happens and I'll do some more thinking.

I have the exact problem. Have you found the fix?

I have same identical problem with 95 explore. Have you found a fix?

@j.costa have you tried jumping the wires directly? Just to rule out everything aside from the switch itself?

In my case, it appears to be the contacts on the outside of the ignition lock. Not the cylinder that you put the key in and turn, but the part that the key-cylinder fits into on the steering column. My driver window up still does the start/stop thing intermittently, but if I move the ignition cylinder a hair, it will stop. Replacing the key-cylinder with a new one made the start/stop permanent instead of intermittent.
