Greetings all....new to the forum.

2001 XLS. Noticed that the drivers seat was leaning to far back and that I could rock it back and for like there was a lot of play. Pulled the seat, cover and foam. Found that the upper bolt for the frame mount to the recliner mech intact. But the welded, threaded part of the bracket inside the frame was broken clean off. Cut the bolt out and got the back of the seat completely removed.

Everything I have seen about the recall on this has been about the upper bolt itself. I havent read anything about the threaded part of the bracket inside the seat frame (which just came right out once I got the bolt out. One would think that this would be bolted to the frame from the back (where there appear to be holes for just such a thing LOL))

Anyway, I have been searching for a part number, a name, anything that says what this part would be called in Ford land, 'cause I wanted to see what it would cost to replace. Given the detail of the recall, which states that the upper BOLT would be replaced, I presume that this would not be covered. Either way, at this point, the seat is pulled and dismantled, so not gonna be driving the truck to Ford at this rate.

Anyone know what this part is and has this happened to you? If I could just get the part and a new bolt, I am good to go.

Thanks and thanks for this site! The ol' girl is upwards of 210K miles and I am trying to keep her running without breaking the bank by handling the little things myself. Not much of a motorhead, but I can handle most of the things like this that do not involve the engine itself.

Sorry for a long post and look forward to hearing some thoughts.

My Sport has the same problem...

I too had the seatback that was too far back...I was about to replace the seat latch[this is the drivers seat] but the latch bolts were tight and did not move...

I was about to disassemble my seat when I found a set of 08 Explorer seats.. I knew they were not 2 dr seats but I figured I could still use them... And for $40 I couldn't go too wrong...

Well I pulled my drivers seat out and compared it to the newer seat...They were completely different but I did find the problem;the seat bottom frame had a crack in it...I removed all the padding and got some steel bars to reinforce the seat frame and welded it together...Then I used the padding and seat covering from the 08 seat and bolted the recliner back onto the seat frame...

I went ahead and did the same to the passenger front seat so they would match and the seats are 1000% firmer and I don't have the lean anymore...I am 6'5" and 380 lbs so it gets stress tested every time I sit in the truck!!!

I have been told the seat frame is around $200-$250 from Ford so you might go that route or go to a junkyard and see if you can find a seat to match in better shape...
